|Smuggler Press Gang|
|Robert plays Scott-Ponsonby, an officer who arrests a young boy to enlist him in the Navy. Scott is tricked into a duel and is afraid he'll be disinherited if word reaches his uncle about the fight. A bargain is made - silence about the duel if Scott agrees to hand over the boy. Scott realizes too late the man he bargained with is actually a smuggler, not a Navy officer.
Although not an extraordinary role for Robert, his involvement in Smuggler Press Gang would eventually lead to a later role Richard Carpenter offered Robert in a few years ... Sir Guy of Gisburne in Robin of Sherwood. Legend has it Carpenter wrote in the role of Gisburne partly because of how impressed he was with Robert's actitng and fencing abilities in Smuggler.
